If you have an Android phone you should consider setting the Google Play Store to automatically keep your apps up to date any time.  The default value is to only update apps while on WiFi.  This means that if you are never on WiFi then you're not going to get app updates.

Here's how to switch it so that you get updates over the cellular network.
